What happens in inclement weather?

Due to the fact that we operate on a farm with horses, weather must always be taken into consideration for safety reasons. If there are thunderstorms, high winds, strong rain, the ambient temperature is below -15C or snow storms, lessons will be cancelled.

This is up to the discretion of the instructor, and you will be contacted a minimum of 2 hours prior to the lesson. You will not be charged for these cancellations. Please note that unless you are contacted by the instructor, the lesson is not cancelled. Failure to attend the lesson is considered a cancellation with less than 24 hours notice and you will be subject to a cancellation fee.

frequently asked questions

Are there any rules for coming to the farm?

Please respect the following general safety rules:

  • Anyone coming to the farm must wear closed toe shoes. You are around 1000+ lb animals who can move quickly. If your foot is stepped on, you want the protection of closed toe shoes.
  • Smoking is not permitted on the property at any time. Recent events in the news highlight just how easily a barn fire can happen. We don’t want that to happen to our horses.
  • All phones must be put on silent or left in your vehicle. Random, loud noises can startle or scare our horses. We would like to keep that to a minimum.
  • The instructor must be asked prior to any pictures being taken. Bright flashes disorient and can scare horses. Also, not all of our clients and volunteers want to have their photos taken. Please respect their wishes.

My child really wants to ride a specific horse, why can't that always be a guarantee?

Although a horse may only appear to be walking in a lesson, they are making a large number of minute muscle adjustments and having to deal with an unbalanced rider, which can cause soreness in the horse.

They are also highly attuned to the emotional state of the rider and people around them, which can be distressing at times. Due to how hard these horses work, the use of the horses is limited and up to the instructor. It is for this reason that some horses cannot be used if they have already had multiple lessons.

Our horses take really good care of their riders, we want to do the same for them!

Can you send us an invoice for lessons?

Yes, we can do invoices. Please note that invoices must be paid within 14 days of receipt. If payment is late, a charge of $15.00 will be added to your next invoice.

For our new riders and families, we have a list of frequently asked questions to help prepare you for the first session. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have that haven't been addressed on this page..

How does payment work?

Lessons must be paid for in a minimum of groups of two unless previously discussed with the instructor. We can now accept credit card payments for lessons, in addition to e-transfer, cheque, and cash payments.

Please note that cheques must be addressed to “The Equine Connection Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre.” We understand that this is cumbersome to write, so we do have a stamp with our name on it if you prefer.

What is the cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice for cancellation of a scheduled lesson. This gives us time to schedule another lesson to take your place and notify all of our volunteers of the schedule change. If notice is not given, or is given less than 24 hours prior to the lesson, you will be charged a cancellation fee at the discretion of the instructor.
